We played well today & lost narrowly to a very good Arsenal side, who appear to have the Indian sign over us at the moment. Play like that for the rest of the season & we will win more than we lose!

Forgot to add, Song had a poor game by his standards.

It was a brave fight and the last hurrah and inconsistent reffing are going to take centre stage. For me, the wrong team was picked from the outset. Pace and running at players with the ball at feet is the way to go. We saw it earlier in the season and it worked. The Arsenal defence had Carroll well under control all game, same as Chelsea did.

Today was a bloody great game of football.
Even though we lost I was proud of the team and the club.

That interpretation of the offside law changed which is why play continues despite players being clearly offside, supposedly the guidance is that unless the player touches or makes an attempt to he is deemed not to be interfering in play.

Today the officials did not follow this guidance or mistakenly believed Sakho touched the ball, at the game I saw a shot from outside the area fly straight in and didn't even consider it might be offside and I reckon 99% of the people in ground including those on the pitch also reacted the same way and expected a goal to be awarded, unfortunately for us the officials were in that 1%.

Personally I can understand why officials get things wrong but today I struggle to understand why between them those out there today deemed to see an incident completely different to how nearly every official has been judging similar ones this season.

commentators really said nothing about it, and the only shot was the live one. I certainly didn't think the defender got anything on the ball

I knew you were defending the selection, and I think you made good points. I guess it was my feeling before chelsea and arsenal that these games didn't really matter (i.e. - we didn't NEED points from these games). While purely speculation, our best against chelsea could have earned a result and inspired the rest of the squad for arsenal. It could have also seen us pummeled in both, but it wouldn't look much different now. Hence, I'd rather we rode our luck in this charmed season and let the chips fall where they may. It's a luxury we can seldom afford.

Nobody has really picked up on it but I am sure that is a pen on Amalfitano near the end of the game. Would like to have a closer look at that one.

You're talking out of your arse Antly the linesman can't see something that didn't happen! Officials can only give what they see not from guesswork or some mystic imagination! That's plainer isn't it

.... and there you go.... good goal or offside. Different opinions from our own.

I commented on the Mail report and said basically it should have stood as no interference when the ball was kicked - got mullered!

I think you are right and it just gives the manager an excuse to complain like he did against the decision in the Man Utd game when Nolan scored while being offside.
Reid gave away a clumsy and stonewall penalty, they could and should have had another IMO when Chamberlain went through but tried to stay on his feet.
Nobody to blame for defeat other than the players and manager.

We put up a fight but don't look the same team as earlier in the season. Poor movement up front and predictable passing.

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
I'm on about the fact that it looked like it might have got a touch on the leg of one of the offside players, and that is what the linesman may have believed he saw.
Can't put it any plainer than that.

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
Sakho let the shot go through his legs! Definitely interfering but a lot of officials would have let it go.

Offside and interfering!

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
Haven't got the hump with the team today.
Pissed off with the result obviously, but team competed and played well overall against a clever attacking side, who were always going to cause us strife. I said yesterday it would be which defence coped better in this one, and luckily for them kochielny or whatever his fuckin name was back for them. Big difference that, cause dogshit debuchy in central defence I fancied us.

Still pissed off though with the manager over CFC game, field your best side always you fat fuck.

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
The goal should have stood nobody was blocking the keepers view. I don't know what Antlys on about when he says 'possibly flicked someone's leg' the ball didn't touch anybody on the way in

Good goal chalked off should have counted

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
Just watched the game again and it was a great game.

I think the officials got it right by disallowing the 'goal' by Song and giving the penalty against Reid, sadly.

The other way around and we'd expect both to go our way.

Re: West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread 1-2 FT
It's true that there is a lack of consistency.
Of course, we don't know what the linesman believed he saw.
As I mentioned before, it looked as if one of the offside players may have made some contact with the ball. The linesman may have seen it that way.
